The 12th International Video Poetry Festival, organized by The Institute for Experimental Arts in collaboration with Void Network, held on April 11 and 12, 2025, at the Free Self-Organized Theatre EMBROS. The 2025 festival confirmed its position as one of the oldest and most significant video poetry festivals in the world, offering an impressive two-day celebration of poetry, films and music.
With 97 films from 43 countries and 33 live performances from 11 countries, the festival presented a rich program embracing the art of Poetry in all its forms. The first day was dedicated to film screenings, while the second offered a dynamic mix of live spoken word, poetry, and music performances.
On both days of the festival, the Video Art Zone operated in parallel at the theater’s foyer. We would like to thank all the video artists and filmmakers whose artworks created a special zone of artistic expression.

Awards: BEST Video Poetry Films 2025
For the first time this year, the festival presented two significant awards.
The Award for Best Video Poetry Film 2025 goes to “Free Words: A Poet from Gaza” (15 min) by director Abdullah Harun Ilhan from Turkey.
The work follows Mosab Abu Toha, a detained Palestinian poet whose art becomes a powerful voice of resistance against genocide and hope amid oppression. The art committee of International Poetry Festival selected this work for its exceptional narrative power, cinematic excellence, and timely subject matter that highlights the importance of art as a means of expression in difficult social circumstances.
The Audience Award goes to the moving work “Duties of My Heart” (10:00 min) by director Judy Lieff from USA.
The film features deaf ASL poet Terrylene and dancers bringing to life Barbara Barg’s poem of resilience, described as “a revolutionary act in poet Barg’s world.” The power of visual storytelling and the emotional performance won the hearts of the audience, who recognized the exceptional composition of poetry, dance, and cinema.
Special Mention Awards 2025
Besides the award-winning films, several noteworthy video poems stood out and received extended applause and the Special Mention Awards 2025, a way of thanking, acknowledging and recognising some of the greatest works of the 12th International Video Poetry Festival :
Mum Does The Washing (04:41 min) by Iman Omar from United Kingdom
A biting, hilarious takedown of ideologies through the lens of laundry, this poem exposes power, privilege, and performative politics with whip-smart wit. It re-centres the unseen labour of “your mum” while unpacking global systems with devastating clarity. Both deeply funny and deeply feminist, it leaves you laughing—and thinking.
AWESOME (07:34 min) by Giovanni Scarpa from Italy
Directed by 20-year-old Giovanni Scarpa, this poignant film explores the quiet devastation of loneliness in the modern world. Through the eyes of a middle-aged man grappling with aging, isolation, and psychological turmoil, Scarpa offers a raw, empathetic portrait of human fragility. Beneath the surface, it is also the haunting reflection of a young artist confronting his own fears about his future. Thoughtful and deeply personal, this is a striking debut that lingers long after it ends.
All those memories I can’t remember (04:35 min) by Nikolaj Schou from Denmark
In his debut film, All Those Memories I Can’t Remember, Nikolaj Schou delivers a moving meditation on memory and loss. Centered on a young woman’s struggle to recall a pivotal moment with her late grandmother, the film unfolds with exquisite cinematography, precise editing, and a deeply felt performance. Schou invites us into a lyrical exploration of what lingers after our loved ones are gone—an introspective and philosophical journey through the fragile terrain of remembrance.
“I Carry Your Heart With Me” (03:45 min) by Kapou Opa from Greece
The visual interpretation of E.E. Cummings’ beloved poem, “I Carry Your Heart With Me” (03:45 min) by Kapou Opa from Greece, explored the transcendent nature of love that remains present across time and space. The film by Kapou Opa is a tender, transcendent ode to love’s enduring presence. With simple cinematographic language and profound emotion, it captures intimacy without sentimentality. Each moment of the video poem pulses with quiet devotion, reminding us love is both fragile and eternal. A video poem that lives in the heart, long after the end of the show.
“Ya Sudan” (02:25 min) by Talal Al Zubair from Sudan
“Ya Sudan” by Talal Al Zubair from Sudan is an anti-war video poem born after the 15th of April, 2023, when a harrowing civil war broke out in Sudan, escalating a relentless cycle of violence, anguish, desperation, loss, displacement, famine, and rape. Is a magnificent documentary video poem, a desperate voice for the empowering of Sudanese people and global Peace.
Festival Poets & Performers
While we look forward to future collaborations with several scheduled artists who couldn’t join us this time due to health reasons or national strike day in Greece at the day of the artist’s arrivals, the festival still showcased an impressive lineup of talent. Among them were Orestis Batakis, Umar Uzair from Malaysia, Vasso Christodoulou, Mochi, Hannah Newton from the UK, Adama Diop from Senegal, and Amanda Shea from the USA. The festival expresses hope to welcome them on stage next year.
The festival program included a dynamic community of poets and spoken word artists from 11 countries who presented their work during the second day.
Sofia Barka, Maro Galani, Thomas Tsalapatis, Ishvar Krishnan from India, Prokne, Georgia Diakou, Marouso Athanasiou, Ze Mitsos, Yannis Raouzaios, Sami Rhymes from the UK, Sissy Doutsiou, Mad Kate from USA/Germany, Giasemaki, Tasos Sagris & Whodoes, Fâné, A.Epitheti, capétte, J.Chambers from Jamaica/UK, Makis Moulos, Black Bee, Oyte kan, [BADpoetry] with Çağla Meknuze from Turkey, Poppy Delta, Ioanna Lioutsia, Kapou Opa, and Larry Cool composed a mosaic of voices and expressive means covering a wide range of themes and styles.
From poetry readings and spoken word to experimental approaches combining sound, movement, and image, the artists presented works exploring identity, memory, social structures, urban experience, intercultural encounters, and personal narrative. The diversity of approaches highlighted the richness of the contemporary poetic scene, both in Greece and internationally, confirming the importance of the International Video Poetry Festival as a meeting point for different artistic expressions and traditions from the 5 continents.
The 12th International Video Poetry Festival confirmed its importance as a platform for artistic expression and intercultural dialogue, highlighting the power of poetry and image as means of communication and resistance. With the participation of artists from around the world, the festival continues to expand the boundaries of art and offer a unique platform for the expression of ideas, emotions, and visions.

12ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Βιντεοποίησης 2025
Το 12ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Βιντεοποίησης που οργανώθηκε από το Ινστιτούτο Πειραματικών Τεχνών σε συνεργασία με το Κενό Δίκτυο στις 11 και 12 Απριλίου 2025 στο Ελεύθερο Αυτοδιαχειριζόμενο Θέατρο Εμπρός, επιβεβαίωσε και φέτος τη θέση του ως ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά φεστιβάλ βιντεοποίησης στον κόσμο, προσφέροντας ένα εντυπωσιακό διήμερο γεμάτο ποίηση, εικόνα και μουσική.
Με 97 ταινίες από 43 χώρες και 33 ζωντανές performances από 11 χώρες, παρουσιάστηκε ένα πολύ πλούσιο πρόγραμμα που αγκάλιασε την τέχνη της Ποίησης σε όλες τις εκφάνσεις της. Η πρώτη μέρα ήταν αφιερωμένη στις προβολές ταινιών, ενώ η δεύτερη προσέφερε ένα δυναμικό μείγμα ζωντανών εμφανίσεων spoken word, ποίησης και μουσικής.
Βραβεία: Καλύτερα Video-Ποιήματα 2025
Για πρώτη φορά φέτος, το φεστιβάλ απένειμε δύο σημαντικά βραβεία.
Το Βραβείο Καλύτερου Έργου Βιντεοποίησης 2025 απονεμήθηκε στο “Free Words: A Poet from Gaza” (15:00 λεπτά) του σκηνοθέτη Abdullah Harun Ilhan από την Τουρκία.
Το έργο ακολουθεί τον Mosab Abu Toha, έναν Παλεστήνιο φυλακισμένο ποιητή του οποίου η τέχνη μετατρέπεται σε μια ισχυρή φωνή αντίστασης στην γενοκτονία και ελπίδας μέσα στην καταπίεση. Η επιτροπή επέλεξε αυτό το έργο για την εξαιρετική του αφηγηματική δύναμη, την κινηματογραφική αρτιότητα και την επίκαιρη θεματολογία του που αναδεικνύει τη σημασία της τέχνης ως μέσο έκφρασης σε δύσκολες κοινωνικές συνθήκες.
Το Βραβείο Κοινού απονεμήθηκε στο συγκινητικό έργο “Duties of My Heart” (10:00 λεπτά) της σκηνοθέτιδας Judy Lieff από τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες.
Η ταινία παρουσιάζει την κωφή ποιήτρια της ASL Terrylene και χορευτές που ζωντανεύουν το ποίημα αντοχής της Barbara Barg, αποτελώντας “μια επαναστατική πράξη στον κόσμο της ποιήτριας Barg”. Η δύναμη της οπτικής αφήγησης και η συγκινητική ερμηνεία κέρδισαν την καρδιά του κοινού, που αναγνώρισε την εξαιρετική σύνθεση ποίησης, χορού και κινηματογράφου.
Βραβείο Ειδικής Μνείας- Έργα που Ξεχώρισαν
Εκτός από τα βραβευμένα έργα, αρκετά βιντεοποιήματα κέρδισαν τις εντυπώσεις και απέσπασαν τον Βραβείο Ειδικής Μνείας 2025 του Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Βιντεοποίησης 2025 και παρατεταμένα χειροκροτήματα του κοινού:

Η οπτικοποίηση του αγαπημένου ποιήματος του E.E. Cummings, “I Carry Your Heart With Me” (03:45 λεπτά) από τον Kapou Opa από την Ελλάδα, εξερεύνησε την υπερβατική φύση της αγάπης που παραμένει παρούσα στον χρόνο και τον χώρο.
Και τις δύο ημέρες του φεστιβάλ, μετά τις 20:00, λειτούργησε παράλληλα η Video Art Zone στο φουαγιέ του θεάτρου. Θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε όλους τους video artists και τους κινηματογραφιστές που με τα έργα τους δημιούργησαν έναν ξεχωριστό χώρο καλλιτεχνικής έκφρασης.
Οι Ποιητές του Φεστιβάλ
Δυστυχώς, ορισμένοι από τους προγραμματισμένους καλλιτέχνες δεν κατάφεραν να παρευρεθούν στο φετινό φεστιβάλ για λόγους υγείας ή λόγω της πανελλαδικής απεργίας στις αερομεταφορές την ημέρα αφίξεων κάποιων καλλιτεχνών. Ανάμεσά τους ο Ορέστης Μπατάκης, ο Umar Uzair από τη Μαλαισία, η Vasso Christodoulou, το Mochi, η Hannah Newton από το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, ο Adama Diop από τη Σενεγάλη και η Amanda Shea από τις ΗΠΑ. Το φεστιβάλ εκφράζει την ελπίδα να τους υποδεχτεί στη σκηνή του την επόμενη χρονιά.
Το πρόγραμμα του φεστιβάλ περιλάμβανε μια δυναμική κοινότητα καλλιτεχνών που παρουσίασαν τη δουλειά τους κατά τη διάρκεια της δεύτερης ημέρας.
Η Σοφία Μπάρκα, η Μάρω Γαλάνη, ο Θωμάς Τσαλαπάτης, ο Ishvar Krishnan από την Ινδία, το Prokne, η Γεωργία Διάκου, η Μαρουσώ Αθανασίου, ο Ze Mitsos, ο Γιάννης Ραουζαίος, ο Sami Rhymes από το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, η Σίσσυ Δουτσίου, η Mad Kate από τις ΗΠΑ/Γερμανία, το Giasemaki, οι Tasos Sagris & Whodoes, η Fâné, ο A.Epitheti, ο capétte, ο J.Chambers από την Τζαμάικα/Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, ο Μάκης Μούλος, η Black Bee, ο Oyte kan, οι [BADpoetry] με την Çağla Meknuze από την Τουρκία, η Πόππη Δέλτα, η Ιωάννα Λουτσία, ο Κάπου Ώπα και ο Larry Cool συνέθεσαν ένα μωσαϊκό εκφραστικών μέσων που κάλυψε ένα ευρύ φάσμα θεματικών και τεχνοτροπιών.
Από αναγνώσες ποίησης και spoken word μέχρι τις πειραματικές προσεγγίσεις που συνδύαζαν ήχο, κίνηση και εικόνα, οι καλλιτέχνες παρουσίασαν έργα που διερευνούσαν την ταυτότητα, τη μνήμη, τις κοινωνικές δομές, την αστική εμπειρία, τις διαπολιτισμικές συναντήσεις και την προσωπική αφήγηση. Η ποικιλομορφία των προσεγγίσεων ανέδειξε τον πλούτο της σύγχρονης ποιητικής σκηνής, τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και διεθνώς, επιβεβαιώνοντας τη σημασία του Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Βιντεοποίησης ως σημείου συνάντησης διαφορετικών καλλιτεχνικών εκφράσεων και παραδόσεων.
Το 12ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Βιντεοποίησης επιβεβαίωσε τη σημασία του ως διεθνές πεδίο καλλιτεχνικής έκφρασης και διαπολιτισμικού διαλόγου, αναδεικνύοντας τη δύναμη της ποίησης και της εικόνας ως μέσων επικοινωνίας και αντίστασης. Με τη συμμετοχή καλλιτεχνών από όλο τον κόσμο, το φεστιβάλ συνεχίζει να διευρύνει τα όρια της τέχνης και να προσφέρει μια μοναδική πλατφόρμα για την έκφραση ιδεών, συναισθημάτων και οραμάτων.
