The Institute for Experimental Arts / Records proudly announce the spoken word album Phenomenology of Guillotine by Tasos Sagris & Whodoes.
A thought-provoking spoken word album by Tasos Sagris & Whodoes. This multimedia duo blends electronic soundscapes, post-rock atmospheres, poetry, and video art to create a compelling narrative on the collapse of society and the unrelenting pressures of urban life.
Written during a period marked by global social, economic, and health crises, “Phenomenology of Guillotine” invites listeners to delve into the hidden facets of an era whose wounds remain open and unexplored. Tasos Sagris’s poetry serves as a profound meditation on neoliberal alienation and social cannibalism, questioning why societies erect guillotines in their main squares for rulers, enemies, and leaders alike. His work captures the desperation-driven violence and offers a snapshot of a crisis-ridden time, posing poignant questions about the present and future while seeking moments of rebellion and escape.
Whodoes’s compositional diversity amplifies the emotional impact of the album with post-rock, ambient, avant-garde, and electronic arrangements, providing a cinematic dimension to the work. Each track immerses the listener in a soundscape that complements the evocative poetry, creating a holistic experience that is both introspective and expansive.
Released on July 17, 2021, “Phenomenology of Guillotine” is a detailed chronicle of societal disintegration and a resonant exploration of contemporary existential dilemmas. The album’s recording took place at SubDub Studio and Sonor Music Studio, with mixing and mastering by Stefanos Konstantinidis at Fabrika Music Studio, and mastering for track 6 by Stefan Torto. The cover photo and artwork by Yannis Papaioannou encapsulate the album’s themes with stark, evocative imagery.
“Phenomenology of Guillotine” stands out as a remarkable artistic achievement, weaving together poetry and music to offer a deeply reflective and visceral listening experience. It is a poignant reflection on the current state of the world and a powerful artistic statement on the enduring human condition.
