ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lia Hide is the head, heart and soul, composer, arranger and producer of her same titled band. Her music is fusing jazz with avant-garde, cinematic with dark wave, glitch with baroque pop, weaved with strong words and versatile vocals, powerful pianos, screaming trumpets and guitars on top of a rigid rythm section.

After a very busy collaborative discography (2007 – 2012) and her debut HOME (2013) from EMI-Universal, she pursued to work with indie labels only onwards (the Sound of Everything, Amour Records, B-Other Side Records, Hidden Track Records and US based Conch Town Records) releasing 4 studio albums, a remix album and an instrumental work (music commissioned for Pavlos Kourtidis’ dance drama “Genoktonia” – ΠΚ Theater & Aisxlyleia Festival 2019, released by Ιδαλγός Publications).

She’s multi-awarded at numerous International Video and Short Film Festivals and Competitions for the video-clips from the Missing Fourth Guest album – her 4th album, a concept album themed and influenced by Plato’s ‘Timeaus’. Working with aclaimed video creators Thanos Liberopoulos and Yiannis Margetousakis of Kiss the Frog team, she made it to the 2nd ballot for the Best Music Video for the 2023 Grammy Awards. She is also a video creator and editor herself, filming and dressing her music and live performances with video art.

She’s performed in Europe, 5 multi dated tours in 16 countries since 2019, having performed at major and minor festivals (Dark Malta (MT), Station Street Festival (BG), Forest Jam Festival (FR), Nisville Jazz Festival (SE), Wfest (BE), KraKra International Jazz Festival (BG), Athens International Jazz Festival (GR), Fekete Zaj (HU), Varusha South 48 Hours (BG) and more, and alongside famous artists (Tricky, Die Krups, Kadebostany, Kovacs, Front242, March Violets, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Blak Uhuru, Karen Souza, Ida Nielsen and more). Representing Greece she performed at Berklee University and the Ancient Nemea Games Revival and at SoAlive (BG), MMB (RO), PIN Music Conference (MK), Athens Music Week (GR), Melodrama (PL) and Future Echoes (SE) conferences and showcases

She was the Greek finalist for the 2023 HEMI Awards, and a Culture Moves Europe beneficiary for 2024. In March 2025 she joined MadebyGrey to sing at CAN festival in Zhoushan, China.

She’s teaching songwriting, musical and popular music vocals, and is a London College of Music collaborator since 2005 (she holds an MMus in Songwriting – Bath Spa University, Licentiate in Piano Performance – GSMD, Bachelor of Arts & Associate in Business – Deree College and Greek soloists Diplomas in both Classical Singing and Classical Piano) and is composing music for theater & dance productions.

Lia Hide is endorsed by Se Electronics Microphones.

ABOUT THE ALBUM

“ARISTOPHOBIA NERVOSA” marks a turning point in Lia Hide’s prolific creative journey. This is her first album entirely in the Greek language.
In this contemporary spoken word mixed with singing and exciting musical landscapes, Lia Hide narrates the perils of an Athenian girl becoming a woman, becoming a ghost of herself while struggling against the hostility of her reality, wearing her scars as jewels for all to see.

Following her 4th album’s widespread critical acclaim with international awards and major festival appearances, this 5th album pushes the boundaries of what is labeled ‘pop’ with the ‘avant’, ‘progressive’ and ‘dark’ adjectives combined : while her song vocabulary remains songlike somehow, it surprises in arrangement, duration and structure while joggling between singing and theatrically narrating. With the influences of favorite cinematic composers (Ennio Morricone, John Williams, Manos Hadjidakis) evident, Lia Hide adds dark-wave and post flavors mixed with jazz and 80s electronic music to the blender, creating a unique and mesmerizing work.

The title “ARISTOPHOBIA NERVOSA” is a word play – ‘Aristos’ is the greek adjective that characterizes one who is accomplished, crowned with honorary titles of distinction, excellence and brilliance. Lia created this compound word -Aristos+phobia- that teamed with the term ‘nervosa’ – a term borrowed from medical psycosomatic disorders that are often triggered, related or even enhanced by stress – expresses her aversion of the term’s frequent and in vain use, lately, from social & politically involved Greek personas. Similar word-plays are to be found throughout the album, both in the titles as well as in the lyrics.
