Shae DeTar is a New York City photographer whose vivid, hand-painted imagery evoke scenes from a Jodorowsky film.
Shae DeTar creates otherworldly photographic mixed media prints, taking her subjects out of reality and placing them within her ethereal world. DeTar adds layers of paint to the photographs to exaggerate color, create texture, and add elements of fantasy to the work, often working in large scales, from 4-7 feet. Shae’s work has been featured in Interview Magazine, Italian Vogue,The New Yorker, The Huffington Post, Ny Magazine, I.D, Vice, Dazed, Forbes, Nylon, Marie Claire, Style.com, ElleUk, TeenVogue, ElleUk, Blouin Art Info, Fast Company and Refinery29. Shae exhibits her work internationally and most recently took part in ‘The Female Gaze’ exhibit with Vogue Italia and spoke on a panel with the Vogue Italia editor Chiara Bardelli Nonino in Milan. Her work is currently up in Johannsen Gallery in Berlin. Shae works in Nyc.
