Spoken Word Single & Video Poem

dimitris koufoudakis, spoken word

ATHINA – Sissy Doutsiou / Spoken Word Single

The Institute for Experimental Arts / Records proudly announce the latest single and video poetry production ATHINA by Sissy Doutsiou from her awaited LP.

This compelling piece of spoken word is based on a poem from the book “Glory Days” by Sissy Doutsiou, published by Voidness Publications.

ATHINA is a hauntingly evocative video poem that delves deep into the human experience of loneliness, love, and existential reflection. Through the poignant words of Sissy Doutsiou, masterfully brought to life by director Tasos Sagris, the production captures the raw emotions and complex narratives of urban life in Athens.

The poem opens with a striking encounter between the narrator and a girl named Elektra, immediately setting a tone of longing and introspection. The narrator’s struggle to express the depth of their loneliness and desire for connection resonates throughout the piece, as they navigate the melancholic streets of Athens. The imagery of pedestrian streets, ground-floor apartments, and sealed banks juxtaposes the personal and societal struggles faced by individuals.

Dimitris Koufoudakis’ music production, coupled with the meticulous mixing and mastering, creates an atmospheric backdrop that enhances the emotional weight of the poem. The recording at Hot Box Music Studio ensures a pristine auditory experience, while Tasos Sagris collaboration with video editor Alkistis Kafentzis brings a visual harmony to the production.

The cast, including Poppy Delta, John Mitropoulos, and Lydia Xourafi, embodies the diverse experiences and emotions portrayed in the poem, adding depth and authenticity to the narrative.

ATHINA stands out not just as a piece of poetry, but as a profound commentary on the human condition. The recurring themes of love, pain, and the search for meaning are explored with a sincerity that is both heartbreaking and enlightening.
